Better have a plan in place, to keep your pets safe this winter.
We've only had a taste of what's in store in the coming months.
Veterinarian Dr. Rick Nelson says you don't want to wind up with a frost-bitten dog or cat.
He says most cats and dogs under 35 pounds are simply not equipped to deal with the bitter cold.
He says your pet can easily become sick or even die in the harsh elements.
"That's a horrible thing to go through. It's very, very painful for them and wouldn't it be better just to keep them indoors especially on those really, really cold nights?" says Veterinarian Dr. Rick.
If you do have an outside dog, Dr. Nelson says it's important that they're acclimated to cold weather before it becomes bitterly cold.
Use straw in the dog house or another bedding material that will stay dry.
Another winter-tip? All pet owners should keep antifreeze away from animals.
It can be highly toxic!
