A dangerous Michiana railroad crossing will become safer for drivers.
Drivers have complained about the crossing on Pine road, just west of South Bend, that it needs crossbars.
In October, a 22-year old South Bend man was killed at the intersection when his vehicle collided with a train.
Wednesday morning county officials voted to approve additional funding for more railroad protection at the intersection.
"Anytime we can add a safety enhancement in our community, I think you would find that all our elected officials are happy and we really do encourage that, so its a good thing whether its that railroad crossing or another one those kinds of protective activities are good for the region," says Sandra Seanor of Michiana Area Council of Governments.
The cost will be $450,000 and all funding will come from the federal government.
