Teacher accused of strike special needs student

A former special education teacher is facing charges after police say she struck a student. Saundra Yute is charged with one count of Battery to a Child following an incident back in November.

Yute was the special education teacher at LaVille Jr./Sr. High School. Authorities say she resigned in response to the November incident.

A teacher's aide told the St. Joseph County Police that she saw Yute slap a student on the face and rear end. The student is mostly non-verbal.

Yute is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 1:00pm.
