"This is a trip down memory lane here." Emotions were flowing as Stephanie Andrysiak looked through pictures of her son's journey with cancer.
"He has been an inspiration to me and I know he's been an inspiration to a lot of people. He's never gotten depressed or anything. He's always been upbeat. He's always been smiling," she says.
Her son Brandon Mirich was three when he was diagnosed with leukemia and Andrysiak says he had a year of intense treatment.
"He had no idea what was going on and it was at that point as his mom, I just felt helpless because he had no comprehension of what was going on with him."
She says there were many ups and downs, but now two years later, Brandon is stable and has quite a reward to look forward to.
"I'm going to Disney World!" says Brandon.
He was granted a trip through the Make A Wish Foundation, and Andrysiak says the whole family is excited. "We're just all looking forward to it, just a time to get away and just have fun and forget about the daily things of life that happen."
As they prepare for this trip, Andrysiak says it's impossible not to remember what it took to get to this point. "Don't every take your child's health for granted."
Now she's thankful Brandon's wish came true.
"We were ecstatic!"
But perhaps the biggest gift of all is that Brandon's cancer is in remission.
The family leaves for a week at Disney World on December 31. To hear more about Brandon's journey through cancer click here.
