Children in local hospitals were treated with an unexpected surprise Thursday.
Brand new teddy bears...and not just a couple...over 400 teddy bears.
Its all part of the South Bend airport's "bears in the air program" which asked for local citizens and travelers to donate teddy bears for Christmas.
Those bears were delivered to kids at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center and Memorial Hospital.
"We are so blessed to have a community that supports us the way that they do and to be able to come in and give the gifts to the children give them something to look forward to, something to brighten their day is always a welcome gift," says Jen Tonkovich of Memorial Hospital.
The airport also donated several thousand dollars to a local veterans center.
