A 16-year-old boy is facing several charges, including
attempted murder, in connection to the attack of a woman in her home.
16-year-old Cameron Lewis lives across the street from the
victim in Wednesday's attack in the 1800-block of North Wilber Street.
According to documents, filed in court on Thursday, the woman
told medical staff someone rang her doorbell. When she answered, a male with dreadlocks
and a yellow hoodie forced his way into her home, then beat and stabbed her. The
woman says she passed out, then woke up and was able to call police for help. Court
documents say the woman told 911 dispatchers she believed the person who
assaulted her was one of the neighbor boys from across the street.
Investigators say they searched Lewis' home across the street
with the consent of his parents. Investigators say they found a bloody yellow hoodie
and knives with blood on them in a closet.
Investigators say Cameron Lewis admitted during an interview
to forcing his way into the home, demanding money. Investigators say Lewis told
them he pulled out a knife and cut the woman numerous times in the body and
neck areas. At some point, investigators say Lewis believed the woman was dead
and he dragged her body to the basement.
Lewis is being charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery and
Criminal Deviate Conduct, all class A felonies. He remains in custody and is
scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
Investigators say the victim suffered a number of injuries, including a
slashed throat and punctured lung. The victim had emergency surgery and is now
recovering at an area hospital.
