Even though we saw some snow Friday, it won't be enough for tubing and cross-country skiing at Saint Joseph County Parks.
The parks had hoped to start their winter sports season at St. Patrick's County Park and Ferrettie-Baugo Creek County Park on December 26. The season has now been postponed.
In order to open the innertubing hills, the parks need at least 8 inches of natural snow or at about a week of temperatures low enough for their snow-making equipment to work. The parks say the snow-making equipment needs temperatures consistently below 20 degrees.
The parks can't make snow for cross-country skiing or snow shoe trails. The trails won't open until we get at least 8 inches of natural snow.
