Folks in Michiana wanted to honor the memory of the Newtown victims.
Over 50 people gathered at Battell Park Christmas night to pray for the Sandy Hook families.
All 26 names of victims were read off and a candle was lit in memory of each. Community members attending said they wouldn't be anywhere else on Christmas night.
"Imagine if they were your kids. You'd want people, you'd want the whole United States to feel remorse like the family in Newtown Connecticut are now," says Jake Cole, one of the vigil organizers.
"By having this perhaps we could send a message to the people that we're mourning with them. We can't possibly understand their grieving because we're not experiencing it, but we can imagine what that might feel like," says Warren Kirkwood.
The vigil concluded with the singing of Silent Night before all the candles were blown out.
