Plenty of us are anxious to get out there and enjoy the winter activities at St. Joseph County Parks, but there simply isn't enough snow yet.
They need about 8-10 inches of snow to open up. The depth has to be that high so that they can pack it down and make it usable for cross-country skiing and tubing.
"We're not renting until we can groom the trails. If somebody wants to come out and use their own skis, they can ski around, but like I said, they'll be skiing on grass pretty quickly, especially in the woods," said Leisure Services Supervisor K.C. Nieboer
Wilson Park in Mishawaka was opened for tubing on Thursday. If you'd like to head down the hills, Wilson Park is located on Dragoon Trail between Fir and Elm. You might want to call before you head out, though. Park officials tell us whether they rent tubes on a given day depends on the hill conditions.
