This week's cold weather being welcomed with open arms at the Shipshewana Ice Festival.
Last year, it was so warm for the festival that the festival had to deal with melting sculptures. This year they're hoping for a freezing good time.
This is the 5th year for the event. It started Thursday with 15 ice carvers creating all sorts of cool sculptures. The carvings will be at various locations throughout town.
"[Friday] is competition carving. And the carvers are friends today. Tomorrow they're competitors. And prize money is involved. We have about 600 dollars in prize money," said festival organizer Levi King. In addition, there's a chili cook-off Saturday.
If you buy a festival pin, you will get free admission to the cook-off and discounts throughout town in January. The festival runs through Sunday.
