A plane flying out of South Bend had to make an emergency landing Friday afternoon in Fort Wayne. Allegiant says one of their flights was en route to Punta Gorda, FL when a fire indicator light turned on.
The plane landed safely at Fort Wayne International Airport shortly before 1:30pm. A spokesperson for the Fort Wayne/Allen County Airport Authority says passengers were evacuated from the plane using emergency slides. No injuries have been reported.
The Airport Authority spokesperson says crews have been checking the plane out and have found no indications of a fire. As of 3:00pm, the plane was on the runway, but the airport has resumed operations on other runways.
An Allegiant spokesperson says the 149 passengers will be given the opportunity to fly out this evening once a replacement plane arrives from Washington state. Allegiant says passengers and families of passengers on the flight can call 1-888-393-3535 for help.
