The Elkhart County Prosecutor says murder charges will be
filed against a 17-year-old in the death of an Elkhart woman.
Prosecutor's say 74-year-old Norma Hopper was found dead in
her Michael Drive
home by her niece on December 21. Hopper's car was missing. Just hours before
she was found dead, police say Hopper had called police and told dispatchers that
someone was ringing her doorbell. Officers checked the area, but found no one suspicious
in the area.
Hopper's missing car was found abandoned in Michigan.
On December 23, police say their investigation led to the arrest
of 17-year-old Luis Bailey for Hopper's murder. Police say Bailey was in a relationship
with a woman who lived near Hopper. Bailey is being charged as an adult.
Prosecutors say they are still investigating the case, but preliminary
reports indicate Bailey was the lone assailant.
Bailey has an initial hearing scheduled for Thursday, January
3. He remains in custody without bond.
