The colder temps and snow are making a lot of people happy on the ski hills. Swiss Valley opened Sunday for the first time this season.
"I called every single day and checked their website," said snowboarder Mason Bemiller. He was anxious for Swiss Valley to open. "Cause I really wanted to snowboard."
And he's certainly not the only one who wanted to hit the slopes. Skier Karle Mikel said when she's not at Swiss Valley she's, "normally just at home bored."
Everyone got exactly what they wanted on Sunday as the ski and snowboard area opened for the first time this season. "It's great, it's great to go out and get the legs back in shape and have a lot of fun," said skier Brad Pfister. Even employees are happy. And while they're all thrilled now it wasn't exactly easy getting the ski area ready to open. "We started making snow about five days ago and it's just taken quite some time. It's been a little challenging with the marginal weather," said Jamie Stafne, the Marketing Director at Swiss Valley.
Once temperatures finally hit the low 20's they were able to create their own winter wonderland with snow machines. And they'll keep using those machines to make sure you can keep skiing or snowboarding even if there isn't snow in your backyard. "We'll keep making snow til we have a three foot base to make sure we can ski all season long," said Stafne.
Monday Swiss Valley will be holding a New Years Eve Party. You can be on the slopes as 2013 starts. For more information visit the Swiss Valley website. They haven't been able to open in time for the New Years party for the past two years.
