Brian Kelly has been named the Walter Camp 2012 Coach of the Year. The award, first given out in 1967, has never been awarded to a Notre Dame coach until this year.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation, a member of the National College Football Awards Association, cited Notre Dame's undefeated season and top ranked scoring defense in addition to other team achievements in making their decision.
Three other major awards were given out by the foundation. Former Nebraska head coach and
Athletic director Tom Osborne, former NFL player and coach Herm Edwards and NFL All-Pro Derrick
Brooks all received honors.
In his three seasons at Notre Dame, Kelly has earned a 28-10 record. Notre Dame faces off against Alabama in the BCS Championship on January 7.
