A friendly reminder on this chilly night.
The number of home heating fires goes way up in the winter.
So the State Fire Marshal is reminding everyone to check your smoke alarms.
You should change the battery once a year and replace them every 10 years.
Plus have a plan in case of a fire!
"If you have no plan you're just going to be wandering around wondering what to do," said Clay Territory Fire Marshal. "Make sure you have a plan of where everyone's going to go, everybody's going to meet. Counting noses, making sure everyone who spends the night at your house knows what the plan is."
Make sure you have a smoke detector on every level of your home and near every sleeping area.
