Do you remember Chester Rybicki? He's the 80-year-old Notre Dame Fanatic we first talked with him back in November. The Irish had just finished their undefeated regular season. The ND signs in front of his house on Cleveland Road were getting a lot of attention from fans.
"Whoa happy days are here again," Chester said back in November. "Happy days are here again!"
Fast-forward to today, the day after the National Championship Game, and Chester is a bit heartbroken. "As soon as that game started the pain started. The pain just wouldn't stop. It just wouldn't stop. It just went on and on and on," he says.
But he's nothing if not optimistic. He says bummed out Irish fans should focus on one main thing right now. "The Future," he says. "It's so good. Coach Kelly is here. He's going to be here three, four more years. Imagine that!"
Chester is confident the Irish will be back in the championship again soon. He also takes comfort in what the team accomplished this season. "I know their hearts are hurting bad," he says. "But tomorrow they're going to have to look back at what they did." And what they did is pretty special.
Plus, for a guy who loves all things Notre Dame, Chester says consider what else Notre Dame has to offer. "When it comes to sports. It isn't only football," he says."It's women's basketball, soccer, fencing... the whole thing is beautiful... and we're good at everything."
So Chester says cheer up Irish Fans and continue to' Cheer Cheer for Old Notre Dame.' "You know what the game is the start of something greater," he says!
