Popular Elkhart County bar destroyed by fire

A popular Elkhart County bar burned to the ground early Saturday morning.

The Osolo Township fire department says it received a call around 5am that "My Dad's Place" on State Road 19 near Simonton Lake was on fire.

Flames were pouring through the roof when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Four fire departments and 35 firefighters responded to the fire that was under control within an hour.

Saturday afternoon, employees and patrons gathered at the bar.  Employees say 25 of them are out of jobs.  Employee Vanessa McCreary said, "showing up today and seeing it and there's nothing left, I don't know what I'm going to do, I don't know what any of us are going to do."  Employees tell FOX28 the owner plans to rebuild.  In the meantime the bar will be greatly missed.  "You met so many people and all different kinds of people and it was just a lot of fun.  It's the best job I've ever had.  Everyone cared about each other, everybody knew everybody," said McCreary.

The Osolo township fire department says the building is a total loss, but the owner was able to recover money from a safe.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. The fire department says the Fire Marshal, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are on the scene with dogs.
