68 thousand pounds of turkey were being canned Saturday in Goshen. Turkey thighs were cut into cubes, cooked, and canned at the Depot, all thanks to a mobile meat canner that's in town and hundreds of Amish and Mennonite volunteers. The Mennonite Central Committee has been doing this for decades to help feed hungry people around the world. Stanley Plether, the MCC Meat Canning Committee Chairman said it's, "Amazing to watch everyone work together. This country is really blessed in certain ways so we need to help the people that aren't blessed, poor people that are starving."
Volunteers will be canning in Goshen for eight days then the food is sent to Pennsylvania, then distributed around the world.
