A celebration for Martin Luther King Jr was held this Tuesday morning in South Bend.
The reason -- Tuesday is Dr King's birthday.
The event which was held at the Martin Luther King Senior Men's Club featured an awards ceremony where three different community members were honored for their work.
Organizers say they didn't want to wait til the national holiday to celebrate the life of Dr. King.
"So we felt it was important to celebrate his birthday, on his birthday, rather than waiting for the federal holiday," says Robert E. Smith one of the organizers.
Over 300 people attended today's celebration.
