One part of President Obama's plan involves mental health education. This includes clarifying that doctors can ask patients about guns in their homes and they can report violent threats.
At Memorial Hospital, psychiatrists are happy there will be more emphasis on mental heath.
"Part of the problem is there is a shortage of funding for mental health and people are not as well educated as they could be for picking up on cues of psychiatrically ill or very violently people," says Eve Dreyfus, psychiatrist.
She believes educating people on mental health issues can prevent tragedies like the one at Sandy Hook from happening again.
