Saint Mary's College celebrated Martin Luther King day with a panel discussion.
The panel was made up of first generation college students who talked about the importance of education..and the challenges they faced.
Tamara Taylor was a 19-year-old single mom who took her daughter with her to Central Michigan.
She says she struggled but is hoping her story helps motivate others.
"I'm hoping that they know they have people on campus that have been through their experience and they can reach out to those people and say, "Hey, I'm struggling at this or even just share victories," said panelist Tamara Taylor.
The panel of professionals discussed how they got to where they are today, and they offered advice and answered questions.
