Snow and cold temperatures made it difficult for South Bend firefighters to battle a Tuesday morning fire at a vacant home near downtown.
It broke out at around 12:45 on the 600 block of West Marion Street near Leland Avenue. We're told when firefighters arrived at the scene they saw flames shooting out of the two-story building.
Since the home was vacant, we're told no one was inside when the fire broke out. No firefighters were reported injured. Investigators are still trying to figure out how it all started.
Lincolnway West was closed near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive throughout much of the night as firefighters cleaned up the mess and put out hot spots.
