South Bend Common Councilman Oliver Davis wants to make sure people in his district affected by the New Energy Ethanol Plant shut down get taken care of. So he's holding a meeting to discuss the issue.
People can meet at the Rum Village Nature Center located at 2626 South Gertrude Street from starting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Davis will talk about the progress the city has made in solving the problem. He'll also discuss how the City Council and Administration solved a problem people near the ethanol plant faced in the 1980s.
This latest problem started in late 2012 when New Energy shut its doors. Because the massive amount of water that went through the ethanol plant on a daily basis was no longer doing so, people in the area have noticed problems with their sump pumps and some even have issues with flooding.
