Bishop John D'Arcy has returned home to the Diocese of Fort
Wayne – South Bend
after undergoing treatment for lung and brain cancer.
"It's good to be home," the 80-year-old Bishop Emeritus said
in a written statement released by the Diocese on Friday.
Bishop
D'Arcy, who retired in 2010, was diagnosed with what he called a "rare form of cancer"
after not feeling well while visiting family in Massachusetts for Christmas. He started treatments
with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston
soon after the diagnosis.
In his statement, Bishop D'Arcy thanked current Bishop Kevin
Rhodes and the people of the Diocese for their prayers.
"They are an enormous
consolation," D'Arcy said. "Please continue them. "
Bishop D'Arcy was treated for
prostate cancer in 2011.
