Police say a 27-year-old South Bend man was seriously hurt when he crashed into a tree Saturday morning and was exposed to cold weather conditions.
It happened in the 22,000 block of Madison Road in southern St. Joseph County.
Police say Rodney Murphy was driving west on Madison Road when he left the road and hit a tree.
He was found unconscious and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Police say Murphy had surgery for a serious head injury.
He also had minor injuries from cold weather exposure.
