Food pantries got a big boost Saturday. About 8,000 boxes were filled with food, put on trucks, and sent to eight local food pantries. Everything from green beans to macaroni and cheese. Mark Beeson the Founding Pastor at Granger Community Church said, "After the Christmas season there's a desperate need in the food banks across Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. The banks are empty, much of the food is gone so it's time to replenish, time to refill the shelves of the food banks and food pantries all across Michiana."
About 3,000 volunteers took part in the process that all started at Granger Community Church. "Whenever you're involved in something like this you realize how wonderful it is when the whole community participates together to lift the burden of poverty," said Beeson.
The church has been doing this food drop for several years. They buy all the food with the help of donations.
