Regular train traffic is back up and running after an early morning train derailment on Monday.
Luckily no one was hurt, but transportation officials say service was affected. All South Shore trains scheduled to arrive in Chicago after 6:40 a.m. and before 10:30am were suspended. Officials expect the derailment to "affect the balance of the morning rush hour."
NICTD reported that they had a plan to provide limited unscheduled service between East Chicago and Chicago using two trains that were not affected by the derailment. They say passengers should expect limited seating and crowded cars.
They advise that Metra Electric will honor South Shore tickets in the meantime.
