More than 100 employees at Whitley Products lost their jobs last week when the Plymouth company suddenly closed its doors.
Now there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for those employees. The community, including Mayor Mark Senter, is trying to help the more than 100 workers looking for new jobs.
"Immediately on Friday I began to get calls from companies locally that would be willing to hire some of Whitley's people," said Senter.
On Tuesday some of those companies took part in a job fair for Whitley Products workers. Work One didn't let us inside, but we did catch up with one of the businesses at the fair, All American Welding Supply.
The owner, Karen Hersick says they are ready to hire. "We contacted Work One right away and they said that we have a booth for you to set up so you can go and interview the people that are coming from Whitley," says owner Karen Hersick.
Hersick says the swift action by local businesses shows how much the community cares. "I think when a community sticks together like this that we can't fail."
Businesses in other parts of Michiana, such as South Bend, also participated in Tuesday's job fair. Work One plans to hold another job fair for the Whitley Products employees in February.
