Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore has named a new Assistant Police Chief, and she's a familiar face. Lt. Laura Koch will assume the position of Assistant Chief on Friday. She's been on the force for 11 years, and is currently serving as the department's Public Information Officer.
"I'm always up for a challenge and I think this is definitely going to be a challenge," said Lt. Koch. "I'm going to face a lot of obstacles and I look forward to working with all the guys and making the police department even better than it is right now."
Koch replaces Tim Balyeat who is retiring after more than 25 years with the Elkhart Police Department.
