The Elkhart Streets Department has been busy this week trying to repair potholes. But Wednesday night they told us their attention shifted to the upcoming snow. The Streets Department had their overnight shift workers come in around 7:30 Wednesday night to change the trucks from warm weather mode to cold weather mode.
INDOT also shifted schedules for their drivers Wednesday to make sure they're covered for this snow. Spokesperson Matt Deitchley said when the weather shifts so quickly from cold to warm and back to cold it's a challenge. "It's unpredictable which areas will have which temperatures so we monitor that really well," said Deitchley. INDOT did have plow drivers out patrolling the roads looking for where the temperature was first starting to make things slick and taking care of that as soon as they see it.
