A snowmbiler was severely injured in St. Joseph County on Sunday. The Department of Natural Resources says 24-year-old Benjamin Higgins of South Bend was riding his friend when the accident happened.
Higgins' snowmobile hit a rut in the field they were riding in. The snowmobile flipped over and threw him from the vehicle. He suffered a broken leg and severed artery, according to authorities. His is listed as stable at St. Joseph county Hospital.
Police say Higgins was wearing a helmet. Police remind snowmobile riders to ride responsibly and use extra caution when
operating on unfamiliar terrain, as hidden objects and terrain changes can sneak
up on operators, especially when operating at increased speeds.
