Old U.S. 33 open again after Tuesday morning gas leak

NIPSCO is investigating a Tuesday morning gas leak that happened on old U.S. 33 in Elkhart County at the Happy Cooker Cafe.

Baugo Township firefighters were the first on the scene when the gas leak happened around 6:30. Elkhart County Sheriff's Department Captain Jim Bradberry tells FOX 28 police had to shut down the busy road while firefighters worked. That road has since reopened.

Elkhart County crews have cleared the scene but as of 8 a.m. Tuesday NIPSCO was still at the Happy Cooker. Dispatchers tell us they're not aware of any evacuations in the area.

The cause of the gas leak is still under investigation.
