Car washes, cookies, popcorn. We've all seen students using these methods to fundraise. But the Concord High School band did something a little different Saturday. They were holding a mattress sale to raise money for their trip to New York City later this year where they'll be playing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The trip will cost over $1,000 dollars per student.
The school's Director of Music, Scott Spradling, said the mattress sale was an appealing fundraising technique. "The thing I like about it is it's not a door to door event for the kids. It's not selling people things they don't need. Because everybody needs a mattress and we were surprised to find out how often people need mattresses," said Spradling.
The mattresses were being sold for less than retail price. They range in cost from $200-$2,000. The students get a portion of the sales for their trip.
