The South Bend Fire Department is investigating a deadly apartment fire.
It happened around 4:30 Sunday morning in the 1,200 block on Haney Street. When firefighters got there, there was heavy smoke and an active fire inside the building.
Firefighters rescued two children and one adult. They were taken to the hospital.
The fire department says two people were killed in the fire but it isn't clear who they are. FOX28 News spoke to the coroner's office. They say the victims died of smoke inhalation, but did not release the victims' identities.
The apartment building is managed by the City of South Bend Housing Authority. The cause of the fire is being investigated but authorities believe it started in the living room.
