The statistics are staggering...
One in 3 women worldwide will become the victim of violence or sexual assault.
That's why people all over the world -- including a group in Michiana -- performed the same dance...
On the same day.
This group at IUSB performed a flash mob dance to raise awareness.
A great turnout there for the event.
They held several practices to get the choreography down.
The idea was to get 1 billion women rising worldwide... and that was the name of the movement.
The idea is the brainchild of Eve Ensler, the author of the Vagina monologues.
"Her idea was to have a global dance activism, inviting, not just women, but people who stand with women to stop violence and to publicize the statistic," said Associate Professor of Women and Gender Studies April Lidinksy.
"It's so exciting this morning to get up and see all these postings from women all over the world because those on the other side of the globe are 8 hours ahead so we got to see the pictures from their events and it brought a lot of energy for us," said Event Organizer Karen DeCocker-Geist.
203 countries participated and there were over 1,000 events in the U.S. today.
