The city of South Bend is offering a new centralized phone service for some city services. The first phase of the project rolled out Friday.
Residents can dial 3-1-1 to request services or file a complaint. Right now the 311 line will cover the Water Works, Solid Waste, and Street Departments. More departments will be added in the future.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg says he's fulfilling a campaign promise of getting results from the city. "It's something we've seen in a lot of a cities and it's useful for reasons. First, and most obvious, is get information and results from the city. The Second benefit is you can take the data that comes in and use it to make better decisions," says the Mayor.
The service operates Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. For more information on the service, go to the city's website.
