The Food Bank in South Bend got some extra help today.
Local students took time out of their day to volunteer at the bank.
It was organized by Alpha Kappa Alpha, a sorority for African American college women.
Organizers say its important for young people to be active in the community.
"And just trying to be role models and even introducing them to volunteering, some students have volunteered and some have not, its something they can carry on throughout their lifetime," says Wilma Gary an organizer.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is one of the oldest sororities in the country starting back in 1908 at Howard University.
