The former executive director of the South Bend Airport got quite a surprise today.
The Airport Authority unveiled a bronze plaque commemorating John Schalliol's service to the community.
Schalliol helped transform the airport during his 35 year-career.
He's credited with bringing the South Shore Railroad to the airport property.
"The community has been supportive of what we've tried to do out here," said Retired Executive Director Bill Schalliol. "This just kind of puts a cap on it and makes me feel very proud."
Schalliol says the surprise worked!
He had no idea they were honoring him... but says he is humbled and grateful.
