A Florida man is in jail in Orlando after, police say, he scammed a local Kosciusko County resident.
Florida police, along with officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department raided the home of Derrick Cordero in Orlando last week. He is currently being held on a drug related charge, but local authorities believe he is involved in a scam.
The Sheriff's Department says a Nappanee woman had been contacted by Cordero and persuaded to pay thousands of dollars in closing fees for a time-share property in Kissimmee, FL.
When police raided the home last week, they found about $30,000 in marijuana, and seized computers, documents, and other devices as part of the scam investigation.
Cordero is currently being held in Florida on his drug-related charges, but also has an active felony warrant for theft/fraud in Kosciusko County. There is no word yet on when he is expected to be extradited to Indiana to face charges.
