Goshen may be taking on a huge project, but there's still options to weigh.
INDOT is looking at two plans to make US 33 more efficient for travelers. One looks at adding an overpass or underpass for east-west traffic which would solve congestion from north-south train traffic. The other option? Constructing a north connector road that would run ALONG the railroad tracks and make for fewer stops on US 33. This option would also involve 40 properties.
"No matter what you do you're going to be impacting people. Whether it's taking their house or living through construction. This isn't a small project at all and especially here in Goshen, it's a pretty significant project," says Mary Cripe, Goshen City Engineer.
There will be a community meeting on February 26 at 5:30 at Rieth Interpretive Center to inform members of their options, but INDOT hopes to have a sure plan by this summer for construction to begin in 2016.
