Deadly Car Accident in Marshall County

An early morning crash has claimed the life of a Plymouth woman.  Indiana State Police say the accident happened on US 31 and 4A Road.

Police found a 1999 Ford Escort in the ditch west of US 31 and a 2011 Jeep Laredo in the center median.

A preliminary investigation says the driver of the Ford, 86-year-old Alice M. Garner of Plymouth, was driving east on 4A Road. She was attempting to cross southbound US 31 when she pulled into the path of the oncoming Jeep.

A witness says she saw Garner stop at the intersection, then saw Garner pull out in front of the Jeep.

The driver of the Jeep, 54-year-old Jack Teska Junior of Nappanee, had minor injuries in the crash. He was treated at the scene. Garner suffered a severe head injury. She taken to a hospital in Plymouth where she later died from her injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

The roads were snow and ice covered at the time of the accident. However, the poor conditions do not appear to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
