Warsaw made history when it won the first girls basketball state championship back in 1976, then won again in 1978. It's been a long time and a lot of work since, but the Tigers were ready to make another run at the title. Warsaw jumped out to a 27-16 lead midway thru the 2nd quarter before Southside cut the deficit to seven by the half. The Tigers led 29-27 at the break. But, Warsaw managed to score just 15 2nd half points.
Southside overcame the 11 point deficit to beat Warsaw 47-44, sending the Archers to the 4A State Finals at Terre Haute.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored 18 points in her final game. She launched a 3-point prayer at the buzzer that could have forced overtime, but it was not meant to be.
Nikki Grosse led the Tigers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Lindsay Baker with 5 points and Brooklyn Harrison with 1 point, were the only other players to score for Warsaw. The Tigers end the season with a 24-2 record.
DeJoyah Johnson led Southside with 11 points while Ariana Simmons scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
