FOX28 is continuing to follow flooding concerns in Rum Village.
Neighbors noticed water seeping into their basements after the ethanol plant shut down. The city came up with a temporary fix, by getting the water pumps back up and running.
South Bend council members met with the Director of the Public Works to discuss the plant Monday. Councilman Oliver Davis says since the pump has been turned on there's been at least a two to three foot drop in the water table levels. That seems to have stopped the flooding problems.
Monday Davis talked about the next step in the process. "Now the key issue is to keep the pressure on with the administration with looking at long term solutions. The short term is in place."
Part of the next step will come down to Wednesday's bankruptcy court hearing, but for now the pump will stay on with money from the council's general fund.
