The South Bend Police Department says they are excited to add a new tool to their tool box. The tool just happens to be a SWAT vehicle that cost more than $162,000.
Police say they will be using the vehicle for tactical response and supporting other emergency services like Haz Mat and E-M-S.
According to police the vehicle is an important addition to improving safety in South Bend.
"This is a multipurpose rescue vehicle that's going to redefine the way we train," said Lt. Steve Smith, South Bend Police Dept. SWAT. "It's going to redefine the way we respond to calls, all while providing us a level of protection we've never seen before."
The vehicle was paid for using money from the police equipment fund and the forfeiture fund.
