Sexually violent predator from LaPorte County arrested in AL

A sexually violent predator from LaPorte County has been arrested in Birmingham, Alabama.

Back in December, police discovered 28-year-old Maurice Ward was registering as a sex offender using an old address and put a warrant out for his arrest. Birmingham police took Ward into custody Tuesday.

He will be transported back to LaPorte County to face charges related to his parole violation as well as charges of failure to register as a sex offender. It has not yet been released if Ward will face criminal charges in Alabama as well.

In 2004, Ward was convicted for Criminal Confinement and was identified as a Sexually Violent Predator.

The United States Marshals Service Sex Offender Investigations Unit, Michigan State Police and Birmingham Police Department are all credited as helping with Ward's location and arrest.
