If you've lived in Michiana for at least the past four years, chances are you've heard the name Skylar Diggins. The Hometown girl and Notre Dame's finest played on her home court for the last time this regular season, Monday.
It was a sold out crowd at Purcell Pavilion and it was quite a game. It is the first triple overtime game in Notre Dame Women's history and they pulled out the big win beating U-Conn 96 to 87.
Many fans not only came out to root on the Irish for their last home game of the season, but they also didn't want to miss Skylar Diggin's last regular season game at Notre Dame. Fans say it was a bittersweet night, but they're thankful for the talent this young lady has brought to the ND Women's program.
"She's awesome. She's not only a great basketball player, she's a really good mentor for the young girls coming in. We're so proud of her," says fan Penny Mohler.
Fan Terry Cline says, "Muffet's always had a great program, but when Skylar came along, she made it better and I think she'll always be great."
"It's good to have a homegrown girl come in and do well like she has and just celebrating her career. It's awesome," says fan Anthony Douglas.
Fans say it's been a great ride with Skylar leading the team. They say they're a little worried about what will happen after she graduates, but they have faith in the program that great seasons are still in store for the Notre Dame Women.
"They built a great program. Skylar's going to be missed, but I think Coach McGraw has energized the newcomers into some team players so it's gonna continue," says Douglas.
Mohler says, "I think she's gonna have a great future ahead of her and maybe someday she'll come back and coach at Notre Dame!"
Diggins became just the forth women's player in school history to score more than 2,000 points. She is a South Bend native and played ball at Washington High School, where her step father coached her.
