Second graders at Parkside Elementary decided to raise money for breast cancer, in honor of their teacher who is now in remission from the disease.
They delivered a 16-hundred dollar check to I-U Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care, Thursday. The money will be used for breast cancer education and research.
Roderich Schwarz, Medical Director of I.U. Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care says, "It's actually much more important for both the kids and the community to realize this is a sign of the community understanding the health challenge that comes with cancer and showing the support for it." Heather Duell, 2nd grade teacher of Parkside Elementary says "It's that life lesson. And we also talk about courage and strength and hope and that's also involved in all of this, as well."
The students also donated a homemade quilt and 400 dollars in gift cards for the patients.
