The following is a media release from the St. Joseph County Prosecuters Office:
St. Joseph County -Manuel Clemon, who was charged with Murder, a felony, on January 20, 2012, in the death of Deshone Caradine, pleaded guilty today to Voluntary Manslaughter, a class A felony, as an included Offense. The difference between Murder and Voluntary Manslaughter is that he killed Deshone Cardine while acting in sudden heat.
The Plea Agreement was reached after careful consideration with the victim's family and states the parties are free to argue at sentencing, which is set for April 10, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. The possible penalty for a class A felony is between 20 - 50 years. The jury trial which was scheduled to begin March 18, 2013 has now been vacated.
Ms. Caradine's body was found in her apartment in the 100 block of N. Eddy Street during the early morning hours of January 18, 2012. Autopsy results confirmed she died from multiple stab wounds. On January 21, 2012, Mr. Clemon was apprehended in Chicago, where he was found suffering from a stab wound to his shoulder and cuts to his hands.
