An Elkhart County neighborhood has been in dispute with the city for a number of years regarding sewer service.
Residents of the Valleyview neighborhood are just outside Elkhart city limits and paying a higher rate for sewer service.
Residents have been asking for a lower rate and the mayor approved a new compact agreement, but some residents still don't think it's fair and are refusing to sign the agreement.
Now they say the city is threatening to disconnect their sewer service this week.
They held a neighborhood meeting Sunday afternoon to discuss a plan going forward.
A city council member says he's surprised by the letter residents got this weekend.
David Henke says, "The tone of the threat was larger than normal. I've never seen a city letter so threatening. I feel bad for these folks to be in the position they are."
Jon Nelson says, "This is totally abuse. We teach our kids not to abuse other people and then we got a Mayor's office that does it almost on a weekly basis."
The Elkhart common council has a meeting on Monday at 7 pm that residents plan to attend.
