Head Coach Brian Kelly seemed very pleased with his teams first day of practice on Wednesday. He thought both the offense and defense complimented themselves well and they had a lot of good work.
"Last year at this time the defense was so far ahead of the offense," Kelly said, "this year it's a balance, and on defense you better come ready to play everyday because there are some pretty good pieces on the offensive side of the ball.
The expectations of how to practice seemed to be achieved by the team. "Our guys know how to practice," Kelly said, "and what our expectations are about going out there and competing in the right way and respecting the way the games should be played...I saw our veterans really take a step up especially our offensive guys."
Kelly also hinted at some possible changes on who would be handling special teams. "Standing on the sideline for the National Championship game and we are ready to kick off and Alabama's got 11 starters on kickoff return," said Kelly, "which nobody wants to be on the kickoff return." "The emphasis for us this spring is to really embrace their roles, I want starters to be part of our special teams units."
